Happy World Book Day!

Hi Everyone, it’s me!

I hadn’t planned on this blog post today (nor drafted, if I’m honest), but it’s World Book Day! How could I have not thought to do a quick book blog?

AND! With the WhatsApp groups, internet, Booktok, Instagram, everything I assume, blowing up with the latest SJM news:

ACOTAR 6 AND 7 ARE COMING! …

… And available to Pre-Order here or at your chosen Bookseller. I had to come in today and do a quick reading round-up.

What are you reading right now?

This year, my Fable reading goal is 45 books, and with today’s official SJM news, a large chunk of this needs to be finishing the other two current series!!

The Year so Far

Rebecca Yarros - The Empyrean Series

Onyx Storm 4.75★★★★★

I put this on my 2025 reading wrap up but I didn’t technically finish this until the New Year, and I am as hooked as ever! And now in the same boat as most people who started this series early on and didn’t have all three books to binge. I.e. having to wait - patiently - for book 4!

Love this series so much!

Hiromi Kawakami - Strange Weather in Tokyo 3 ★★★

Something is getting lost in translation for me in the Japanese literature I have read so far. Every time I want to love it … but don’t. Can someone help me?

The Queen - Sarah J Maas

Throne of Glass Series - Crown of Midnight 3.75 ★★

I’m not stressing at all that I have the rest of TOG and all of Crescent City to finish by October - I’m lucky to be so far behind. Yes, definitely. Lucky.

Penn Cole - The Kindred’s Curse Saga

Spark of the Everflame 4★★★★

Didn’t find me a new book BF, but I can see how we might get there. Also loved that I found the female protagonist utterly insufferable for most of this. Excited for the rest of the series.

Taylor Jenkins Reid - Atmosphere 4.5 ★★★★

My first TJR book and oh jeez! This one just hit different.

I haven’t reviewed much feedback but some mentioned; not a lot happens, the characters don’t change. But my thought is, why do they have to? How much am I really and profoundly changing as a person? Not all that much. Except in becoming a mother.

And as the mother to a boy who dressed up as an astronaut today for world book day, with his cardboard rocket ship and black hole (yep, not a planet, a black hole), I am not letting him go into space!

Ruby Lang - Clean Breaks 2 ★ (IMO, maybe don’t bother with this one)

David Nicholls - Us 4★★★★ Not as strong as One Day for me personally, but an introvert scientist with a PhD, who struggles with everyday social situations - resonated with me.

Current Read

Ursula K Le Guin - Earthsea Cycle series

The Tombs of Atuan - I am struggling with this series a little, but my husband bought me the first four book compilation and I would never hear the end of it if I don’t read it. And I know he won’t read this so it’s okay for me to say that…

Tasha Suri - The Isle in the Silver Sea 4★★★★

Set in a version of London. Love. Magic system and lore based on Ink and Tales. LOVE. A minor character who stole my heart. ADORE!

Please read this.

I’m lucky enough to know Tasha personally through friends (slight flex I know, but I can’t help it), and she is just the loveliest of people, has offered me advice me when I didn’t have a clue what I was doing or where I was going, and has very cute cats! It is super surreal to read her beautiful writing, experience her amazing world-building, and love her characters. Surreal, but incredible.

Why didn’t I end on my current read? Because of

T. J. Klune - Cerulean Chronicles duology

The House in the Cerulean Sea 5★★★★★★★★★★

I adored EVERYTHING about this.

I laughed. I came close to crying. I felt all the feels and fell in love with pretty much every major character, including the cat.

The perfect break to some of the high fantasy and romantasy I have been reading, with the huge plots and worlds. This one didn’t need it. It was cosy and sweet and fun and I just absolutely adored it! Did I say that alread?

Must read, please.

Once again, Happy World Book day! And happy reading.

I hope you enjoyed this quick little round up and it maybe put some new books on your radar. Please talk books with me.

Until next time!
